If you get stuck in an elevator, don’t panic. Find the big yellow button with an image of a bell or a telephone. That is the emergency bell.
There might be one to the side as well, which helps if you cannot reach the main emergency bell button.
Push it and be ready to speak to the elevator company. Don’t expect them to speak fluent English, but expect them to know some. You’ll need to speak clearly and slowly. They will know roughly where you are, but if the building or complex has several elevators, they will be unable to find you unless you can tell them exactly where you are.
Again, don’t panic, as this is rather easy. The primary piece of information to tell them the exact elevator will be the seven digit code next to the QR code. In this case we see 5071-336.
If they understood the numbers, they’ll send for a repair person to come and get you out. This might take awhile, so be prepared to wait for a bit. If there is an actual emergency, they’ll contact rescue. A good way to tell them it is an actual emergency will be if you tell them the numbers 119 or call that from your cell if you have reception.
This is the instruction sign installed in the elevators of the Institute for Basic Science headquarters in Daejeon. If you want a closer look, click the image of the sticker to see a larger size.
