A nice layout image of a bus is this image attached to the wall of bus. You may or may not see this in the buses you ride and certain details will differ, but for our purposes it provides a good overview of what to expect. We see the entrance at the top right, exit at the right middle, plenty of CCTV inside and outside, several hammers to break windows in case of an emergency, a pressure release value to manually open the right middle door, and multiple fire extinguishers. Again, the placement and quantity of these items will differ, quite possibly even on the same bus line.
Here is a bus with two steps up at the entrance and exit. Once entering, the floor is very flat at the front half of the bus with exceptions for seats placed above a wheel. We see a rather wide space for standing passengers and many poles and hanging handles for them to grab on when the bus is in motion. Here we see all the seats are full so the next incoming passengers will all need to stand. At this moment, the center space is still empty, but during rush hour traffic, this large middle space will get very full.
Here is the back of the same bus. The seats above wheels are the same height as the normal seats but there are multiple steps to enter the rear of the bus as the engine is directly beneath these seats. The layout at the very back can slightly differ between buses. If you do sit at the very back, be very careful not to smack your head on the ceiling when going to sit down or stand up and the ceiling is not sloped and will be much closer to your head at the rear of the bus. When all of the seats are full, you’ll need to stand and grab on to one of the poles or hanging handles. As this notice mentions, when the bus is in motion, grab a handle to make sure you don’t fall. The other images and descriptions tell people not to talk loudly on phone calls, be careful when using smartphone as it can be dangerous, and be careful when exiting the bus. As the layout image at the top of this page showed, there are a number of CCTV cameras installed in the bus, both facing in and also facing out. If there is an incident that involves the bus, there is a very good chance it was recorded and can be used accordingly. Here is another notice telling people that the bus has CCTV cameras installed.
