Generally speaking, all Korean and international residents working in Korea need to pay into the national social insurance programs. As there are four primary social insurances, they are collective called 4대보험 (四大保險, sadaeboheom). The English name for these programs sometimes differs from website to website. For our purposes, we’ll collectively call them 4 Social Insurances. The information on this page and those linked below is correct to the best of our knowledge. Please visit the official websites or call them directly for uptodate information.
The government website Social Insurance Information System (SIIS) (4대보험 정보 연계센터, 四大保險 情報 連繫센터, sadaeboheom jeongbo yeongyesenteo) might be a good website to start at. Their website is in Korean and English. The chart below gives a brief overview of the four social insurances. Dedicated subsections for each form of social insurance are viewable when you click on the name of the relevant group.
Official websites and the multilingual variations sometimes change so we only provide the main website link. Phone numbers for call centers change from time to time. Contact information on official websites and PR materials is sometimes incorrect.
