Hello and welcome to the semi-public alpha version of the website Living in Korea. This site is made by one individual, Richard Moore of the Global Relations Team, as a passion project to better assist the international researchers working at the Institute for Basic Science. The foundation of the website is based off a book of the same name, released winter 2018. This website is meant to supersede the book with vastly expanded contents, including hundreds of additional photos and images. The Overview section is 60% the same as the book. The Housing section is roughly 25% the same as the book and contains over 260 new images. As of this writing, both sections are completed.
The next stage is a skip over to the Banking section, where the contents will be nearly the same as the book. Then Transport and Driving will be completed in that order, hopefully by the end of October but I feel safer mentioning “late 2019” as I can only work on this website when my normal workload is completed. Phase 1 consists of the first five tabs of the site. Transportation and the Driving section will be almost completely new content.
Phase 2 will be the other three tabs you see at the top, but their names and order will change. The current plan is Medical, Family, and Other. The second phase will also include expanded contents in the first five sections that were not created in time for the opening of Phase 1, including contents on the four social insurances, year-end tax settlement, and hopefully a large amount of contents concerning smartphone apps and useful websites with a large number of screenshots. When these new sections and subsections are created, they will be rolled out upon their individual completion.
I would really appreciate constructive feedback. If you found errors, incorrect information, or something else which should be changed, please use the Contact Us page and select the box “website content” so it will go to me. If you don’t hear a response it means something else is broken and I ask you to contact me directly – my IBS mail ID is “peaceb”.
Known issues are all coding issues that I have requested fixes for. If you find an error that is not on this list, please do let me know so I can get it fixed. Known issues include:
-Contact Us required fields are not really required.
-Contents on smartphones leaves something to be desired. We need the ability to zoom in and out.
-When viewing the site through the https://www.ibs.re.kr/livinginkorea link, external links frequently do not work. All external links work when viewing the site through the unoffical https://centers.ibs.re.kr/html/living_en link.
-Content Updates titles are all in Korean.
-A few other cosmetic issues.
-Images are stretched in Gallery and related text cannot edited once added.
