Abstract:
Nuclear deformation is an ongoing area of research. New experimental techniques and theoretical advancements have been developed. In this talk, the fully self-consistent mean-field theory is applied to identify all even-even nuclei that are soft against octupole deformation. The origin of the softness is found in the basic shell structure. The presence of atomic nuclei exhibiting significant softness to quadrupole-octupole deformation is revealed. These results represent a significant advance in our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of nuclear octupole deformation and have implications for further experimental and theoretical studies.
