Double Beta Decay
  • The recent discovery of neutrino oscillations clearly indicates that neutrinos do have mass, which is the compelling evidence of beyond the standard model in particle physics. However, that discovery does not answer to the questions about the absolute mass scale nor properties of the neutrino.

Double Beta Decay
  • The AMoRE experiment is an international collaboration with about 90 collaborators from 16 institutions in 7 countries, China, Pakistan, Germany, Korea, Russia, Thailand and Ukraine. This experiment is aim to search on the extremely rare process, neutrinoless double beta decay of 100Mo isotope using 40Ca100MoO4 crystal in a deep underground laboratory to minimize possible cosmic-ray backgrounds.

  • We now know that neutrinos are massive, but don't know yet how much is the neutrino mass and if the neutrinos are Majorana particles or not.
These are important to confirm the "Leptogenesis" theory which try to understand the particle-antiparticle asymmetry in the universe. It is most practical to conduct a neutrinoless double beta decay experiment to find th e unknowns.
