** Abstracts:
Your scientific reputation, your progress in research, and your career path depend not only on your publications and research results, but also on your ability and willingness to build personal connections. Someone at the next conference you attend could become your next collaborator, could inspire a new project, could direct you to new funding, or could even get you your next job – but only if you make the effort to connect with them. Networking is a "soft skill" that can be learned and practiced and, in contrast to the complexity of your research work, can quickly produce results with just a bit of effort. In this hands-on training session, I will go over the basics of networking, and then we will together practice making eye contact, approaching someone and introducing yourself, making conversations, and more. This will help you gain confidence in networking in a low-stress, judgement-free environment, so you can quickly begin to capitalize on opportunities to expand your network.
