Job description:
The center for underground physics (CUP) at Institute for Basic Science (IBS,
https://www.ibs.re.kr/eng.do) in Korea invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in the field of dark matter and neutrino physics. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Koun Choi on the Super-Kamiokande (SK) and the Water Cherenkov Test Experiment (WCTE). The position is full time for one year, with possible extension up to three years. The annual salary will be at least 55M KRW before taxation, depending on skills and experience of the applicant.
The IBS, located in Daejeon, South Korea, is a government-funded research institute that conducts basic science researches and relevant pure basic researches. The CUP hosts dark matter and neutrino physics experiments such as AMORE-II and COSINE-100, also participates in several other overseas experiments such as SK, WCTE, GBAR, and LZ.
A Successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in commissioning, calibration, and analysis efforts for the WCTE experiment. In particular, the candidate is expected to conduct an ex-situ experiment at IBS to measure optical properties of materials used in the WCTE detector, improve the Geant4 simulation accordingly, and analyze the impact on the science studies. The candidate will also significantly contribute to building the analysis framework and analyzing the very first data to be taken from this year. Frequent travels to CERN is foreseen.
Personal Qualification:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. Degree obtained after November 1st, 2019 or firmly expected by February 1st, 2025. Programming skills and good communication skills in English are necessary. Experiences with neutrino and dark matter physics, statistical methods, data analysis and Monte Carlo simulations will be advantageous.
